St. Léon-sur-Vézère

While the hoomans cycled through the lovely Périgord they discovered a super pretty village with lovely outdoor restaurants and decided they wanted to come here on another day to have a scrumptious lunch and a good look around, so they did, and of course I came along!
The village is called St. Léon-sur-Vézère and is one of the most decorated beautiful villages of France.
We had lunch at the restaurant de la Poste, a traditional establishment in operation since 1948. The waitress was super friendly and gave us a nice table on the terrace overlooking the street.
We had a vin de noix as our apéritif, a sweet wine made from walnuts (growing in abundance in Périgord), a bit like sherry and very tasty.
For starters, the photographer’s choice was a poached egg in a creamy porcini mushroom emulsion, with croutons on top. It was pure heaven!! The original hooman had nice salty Périgord Jambon and sweet juicy cantaloupe melon, also a great combination!
As main courses, the photographer had a fish cake, mashed potatoes and veggies with a creamy lemon sauce, and the original hooman had a nice piece of duck with creamed mushrooms and mashed potatoes. There would have been no need for a knife that size as everything was very tender but it looked quite impressive!
As our dessert, we chose apricot-persipan tarte all around, with a bit of whipped cream. Needless to say, everything was delicious beyond belief!
After coffee (look at my bear sized cookie!) we went to explorethe village and its manor house, as the hoomans were initially unable to mount their bicycles after such a big meal! I‘ll show our exploration in my next post.
